Delivering To The Tribes

I've been talking with many people about delivery of visual media to various audiences that are outside the 'mainstream'. I think there are many tribes of people who share some common beliefs that make them Christian, but there are many other passions that make them very different when it comes to creative things like music, art, and film. More importantly, there are tribes who might be open to spiritual stories that we are telling but are not part of our own tribe.

The question I pose is wheth… Continue

Working in the middle spaces ("Is your film for Christians or non-Christians?")

Here's a common question: "Is your film (music/dance/art) for Christian or non-Christian audiences?"

Conventional wisdom (very wisely) preaches that you need to pick your audience. I think many Christian artists tend to instinctively draw a dividing line between those who are 'saved' and 'unsaved' when they craft their stories. I think that the dividing line(s) can easily fall in other areas. For instance, if I am looking at my audience, I may choose to treat some viewers who are Christian and… Continue

Ooze Culture Article: Pot, Truth, and Videodiscs (our unlikely adventures on the indie film circuit)

TheOoze.com has a great collection of culture articles. Today they are featuring a new article I wrote about our experiences in what I call the 'excluded-middle' of Christian/Secular culture.

Shooting a Feature Film Overseas Pt. 2 - We move to Belize...

In the last entry, we ended with our painful decision to move the shooting location from Venezuela to some other, more stable country. We checked out possible sites in Ecuador, Peru, and Panama before settling on Belize, a small Central American country just north of Guatemala on the Caribbean Sea. Belize is quiet, accessible, friendly, and with the added benefit that English is spoken by most of the populatio… Continue

Tom, Yes, you are correct in recognizing the Registan in Samarkand. I was there filming in 2003. It is great to meet you and I am also looking forward to getting to know you and so many others on VSN. Cheers, Evan.

Hey Tom,

How's Milano?

Look forward to having you with us in Kandern on Sunday. I'm trying to invite more folks to the screening on Sunday night. Let me know when you get a train ticket.

It looks like we'll do the get-together with old Caleb group on Monday night so it's not imperative that you arrive super early on Sunday. But if you got here before or close to 4:00 it would be good.

I'll try to check for you on iChat throughout the week as well.
