The eye is the window to the soul.
"I saw only pain in the eyes that were staring at me. I tried to smile, but didn’t know how he might react. My smile faded before I knew it. I was afraid. I wanted to talk to him and ask why he was there. I tried to say ‘hi,’ but my throat felt dry and my tongue stiff. As I walked home I could not escape the expression of hopelessness on his face.
